If you run a restaurant, bar, spa or shop in Thailand, you have probably heard the name Dianping from a Chinese customer or a marketing agency. This guide explains what Dianping and Meituan are, how Chinese travellers use them to decide where to go, and what it takes to get your venue listed properly.

What Are Dianping and Meituan?

Dianping (大众点评) is China’s leading review platform for restaurants, shops and services. Meituan (美团) is the everyday app Chinese consumers use for deals, bookings and delivery. They belong to the same company, and Klick Digital sets up and manages your venue on both under a single account.

Think of Dianping as the Chinese equivalent of Google Maps reviews, TripAdvisor and a deals app combined into one. Every venue has a page (called a POI, or point of interest) with photos, a star rating, written reviews, opening hours, a map pin and, where available, vouchers and set-menu deals.

The important point for a Thai owner is this: Chinese travellers do not use Google or Facebook to look up your venue. Their phones are full of Chinese apps, and Dianping is the one they open when they are deciding where to eat, drink, relax or shop. Industry reports put Dianping’s user base in China in the hundreds of millions.

How Do Chinese Travellers Use Dianping to Choose Where to Go in Thailand?

They compare venues on Dianping before they walk in. A typical traveller shortlists a few places, reads recent reviews, checks the rating and photos, looks for a deal, then picks one. A venue with no listing, or a thin one, is simply not in the running.

Four things drive that decision:

  • Reviews. Recent, detailed reviews from other Chinese visitors carry more weight than anything a venue says about itself.
  • Ratings. The star score is the first filter. Travellers sort and skim by it.
  • Deals. Vouchers and set menus bought inside the app give travellers a reason to choose you over the venue next door, and they know exactly what they will pay.
  • The Must-Eat list (必吃榜). This is Dianping’s ranking of the most recommended restaurants in each city. Making the list puts a venue in front of travellers who plan their trip around it.

Dianping is also the middle step of a three-app journey. Travellers find ideas on Xiaohongshu (RedNote), choose a specific venue on Dianping or Meituan, then reach it with AMap, which gives directions and lets them call a taxi to your door. If your venue is missing from any of the three, the journey breaks.

What Does a Dianping Listing Need?

A listing that wins customers has six parts, and they need to be kept up to date, not set once and forgotten.

  1. POI information. Correct name in Chinese and English, address, map pin, opening hours, phone, price range and category. Mistakes here send travellers to the wrong place or put you in the wrong search results.
  2. Photos and homepage decoration. Your page is your shopfront. Strong cover images, a menu gallery and a decorated homepage make the difference between a scroll-past and a visit.
  3. Review management. Encouraging genuine reviews, replying in Chinese, and handling complaints quickly and politely. A page with unanswered negative reviews loses bookings.
  4. Media ads with ad credits. Paid placement inside Dianping and Meituan puts your venue higher in search and category pages. Ad credits are included in our packages.
  5. Media optimisation. Ongoing adjustment of keywords, categories, deals and creative so the ad budget goes further each month.
  6. Monthly report. A clear summary of your listing and ad activity each month, so you know what is working.

Klick Digital handles all six under full account management, so you do not need a Chinese-speaking staff member to run it.

Why Does Working with an Official Partner Matter?

The setup is done directly, correctly and without middlemen. Klick Digital is the official Thailand partner for Dianping/Meituan and AMap, which means we work with the platforms themselves rather than through resellers.

That matters in three practical ways:

  • Direct access. We open, verify and manage venue accounts through official channels.
  • Correct setup. Category, location and verification are done right the first time, so your venue is discoverable and eligible for deals and ads.
  • No middlemen. You deal with one Bangkok-based team, in Thai or English, and your account stays under proper control.

We have been working across Thai, Chinese and English since 2016. We are also an award-winning Xiaohongshu agency that sets up verified brand accounts and runs content and ads on Xiaohongshu, so the find-choose-reach journey can be handled end to end.

Which Venues Benefit from a Dianping Listing?

Any venue that Chinese travellers walk into. The strongest results come from:

  • Restaurants and cafés
  • Bars, clubs and rooftop bars
  • Spa and massage
  • Standalone retail, souvenir and fashion stores
  • Hotels
  • Clinics and dental clinics

If your venue is in a tourist area of Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai or Pattaya, or you already see Chinese customers, a listing is the most direct way to turn them from occasional walk-ins into a steady, planned flow.
